Potato bruises and related tuber diseases, are a single most important factor that can adversely effect the financial balance sheet of any potato grower. Excessive tuber bruising can be devastating.

Harvest diggers, crossovers, gravity bins, transportation, material handling, storage, shipping and packing are all potential source of frequent tuber bruising. In a modern, highly mechanized potato farming operations, increased reliance on equipment rather then human resources further escalates the problem.
